SUPPLANT ROLL OUT IN SOUTH AFRICA

In the prior issue of Our World magazine, the role of SupPlant in delivering the NuWay™ strategy and InNuvate360™ toolbox for Nulandis was outlined. Since then, Nulandis has installed its first SupPlant systems on three mega farms in Limpopo. A team from Israel was on site for two weeks to provide the necessary guidance and support.

SupPlant is able to analyse data generated from crops through sensors and translate it into irrigation commands. The system is the first of its kind and is the only commercial system allowing autonomous irrigation. This is based on plant and fruit data in correlation to the water content in the soil and climatic measurements.

Using a multitude of hardware sensors and unique software, SupPlant collects data, analyses it and applies sophisticated algorithms to optimise irrigation regimes. This helps with growing healthy and robust harvests whilst minimising water usage.

Data from the three live systems is collected automatically every 10 minutes and can be viewed online. Results thus far have been most encouraging.

A further 12 systems are in the pipeline. They’ll be installed on some of the largest apple and citrus farms in the Cape and Limpopo shortly.

To support the future of SupPlant in South Africa, two specialists were brought on board in August. Welcome!
