Hunger and malnutrition affect almost one-third of the population globally and one in nine people are under-nourished. We’re dedicated to making a difference in addressing these realities. At the same time, we provide functional nutrition that helps consumers use food to combat and prevent disease and make healthier choices. Alternative proteins and plant-based foods are just two examples.
There is a rapidly growing “protein gap”, with demand for meat substitutes expected to rise 70% by 2050. Production of the most viable plant-based protein alternatives requires 95% less land and 74% less water than meat sources. They also emit 87% less greenhouse gases than the milk and meat protein industry.
Our business purpose is aligned to three key UN Sustainable Development goals, namely zero hunger (SDG 2), good health and wellbeing (SDG 3), and responsible consumption and production (SDG 12). Access to healthy food, and hence healthy lives, can cut child mortality and raise life expectancy. Eco-friendly production reduces waste and facilitates recycling.
Innovation is fundamental in our business, reflected in investments such as a world-class Dairy Application Centre, Sweet and Savoury laboratories, and a Beverages Pilot Plant. At the same time, the focus on quality in all our operations is unwavering. Our products reach customers in 26 countries on the African continent and in selected other markets further afield.

AECI Food & Beverage is made up of three key focus areas namely:

Dairy and natural colours (natural colours, and stabilisers)

Beverages (concentrates, formulated juices, dairy blends, compounds, syrups and other beverages)
Specialty Ingredients
Health and nutrition (sweeteners, amino acids, proteins, gut health and herbal extracts), commodities (preservatives, cocoa powder, free flow agents, flavour enhancers, phosphates and wheat gluten) and processing aids (filter aids, growth media, insulates, microspheres, bentonite and fillers)
At our manufacturing facility in Olifantsfontein, we produce and distribute approximately 8 000 tonnes of filter aid products and around 150 tonnes of horticulture and cryogenic grades every year. The 14 159m2 facility comprises four production plants.
The Linbro Park site in Linbro Logistics Park, dispatches nearly 4 000 tonnes of product a year. This facility includes a 5 986m2 warehouse.
AECI Food & Beverage is also a leading supplier of tailor-made fruit and vegetable juice beverage solutions to major brand owners and bottlers in South Africa and are expanding rapidly in the rest of the African continent.
Our global network of suppliers and business associates in Africa, South America, Europe and China ensures uninterrupted access to a range of quality fruit juice materials which we blend to provide customers with turnkey, cost-effective solutions. R&D infrastructure includes two new product development laboratories, advanced mixing technology, sophisticated analytical equipment, a pilot plant that allows for simulated and scaled-up production of new products, and an experienced team of highly qualified and skilled food scientists and technologists. A state-of-the-art blending facility is also in place, making it easier for us to recommend the best comprehensive solution to customers.
Tailor-made formulated products allow customers to simplify their processes, eliminate waste and reduce working capital. We offer them preserved and aseptic chilled and frozen product formats. The blending facility is supported by chemical and microbiological quality control laboratories. FSSC 22000 and ISO 9001 certifications are in place.
